While any of these may be contributing factors, none of them explain the root cause of homelessness. Many of us have family members or close friends who struggle with these very issues—and they are not homeless.
No child dreams of growing up to become addicted, to battle mental illness alone, or to sleep behind a dumpster.
So What IS The Underlying Cause of Homelessness?
We firmly believe that the single greatest cause of homelessness is a profound catastrophic loss of family. Our homeless neighbors have endured deep trauma, and when it happened, there was no family or community to walk with them through recovery. Homelessness wasn’t a choice. It was a resignation to circumstances no one should have to face alone.
Supportive Community of Permanent Affordable Housing
Housing alone is NOT the solution to homelessness. What people need is community—a place to belong, to be seen, and to rediscover their value.
